About the Location:
About an hour from Salt Lake City.

Onaqui Herd Management Area
The HMA is about 200,000 acres and about an hour from the town of Tooele where we will stay during the workshop. Over 400 wild horses roam the HMA at this time, however, there is the possibility of an impending roundup in 2019. One of the roads we will travel is a portion of the old Pony Express Trail. It is a good feeling to know there are wild horses here, since they were used by the Pony Express because of their stamina and endurance! There are some great looking stallions in this herd and there tends to be a lot of actions due to the ratio of stallions to mares. The horse range is stunning with its normally lush valleys, rolling hills, and background of mountain peaks. This is absolutely one of my favorite horse ranges.

You should be technically comfortable with your own equipment prior to the workshop. A 70mm-300mm zoom or longer lens will work best for the photo sessions. There are  many beautiful landscape shots to be had with a normal lens in these settings, as well.  If you have longer lenses, definitely bring them along. Please bring a laptop to share images and participate in the post-processing session (three-day workshop, only.)  Some easy to moderate hiking may be required. You do not have to be a photographer to attend these workshops. Some come just to experience the horses.
